Lately I’ve been reading Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Dr. Paul Brand and Philip Yancey (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 1984). It is an interesting book, as Dr. Brand describes how the human body works and relates it to how the Christian body should interrelate. What struck me the most was the idea that the most important thing about the diverse cells in our body is that they remain loyal to the bigger body. If they don’t, they will go off and become cancer cells, mooching off of the body they belong to and weakening it. Lately I’ve been worried about becoming such a cancer cell. The potential is there for all of us and it is the last thing I want to be. May God teach us to be loyal cells within His Body, building it up and each fulfilling the function He has intended us to fulfill.
