In the past few weeks I’ve been reading a book entitled Cry of the Soul by Dan Allender and Tremper Longman (Colorado Springs, CO: Navpress, 1994). It deals with emotions, specifically our “dark” emotions, such as anger, fear, and shame, and how these emotions show us more about God. What struck me the most is that our God is an angry God. He hates sin. He mocks it. And He is so angry about sin that He does the unthinkable: He turns His anger back upon Himself and punishes Himself so that we can be saved! God’s wrath, His anger and hatred are appeased, because He Himself bore the brunt of it. What an amazing God we have!
