During the last week I found myself struggling with trusting God in some aspects of my relationship with my girl-friend. I found myself overwhelmed by strong fear and worry over what might happen. As I was struggling through this, praying hard, God brought a verse to my mind: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1Jn. 4:18 – NIV).
At first this was a strange thought. No fear in love? But then I remembered what He went through to build for Himself a counterpart, to redeem us, whom He loved. Truly, there is no fear in love. And so as I confessed my fear to Him, I laid it aside. To truly love, means that we are not afraid of the consequences or the problems that might arise. We look at the ones we love and persevere for them, through thick and thin. In love fear is not an option.
